En el infierno Sísifo fue obligado a empujar una piedra enorme cuesta arriba por una ladera empinada, pero antes de que alcanzase la cima de la colina la piedra siempre rodaba hacia abajo, y Sísifo tenía que empezar de nuevo desde el principio (La Odisea, xi. 593).

El motivo de este castigo no es mencionado por Homero, y resulta oscuro (algunos sugieren que es un castigo irónico de parte de Minos: Sísifo no quería morir y nunca morirá pero a cambio de un alto precio y no descansará en paz hasta pagarlo).

Según algunos, había revelado los designios de los dioses a los mortales. De acuerdo con otros, se debió a su hábito de atacar y asesinar viajeros. También se dice aun después de viejo y ciego seguiría con su castigo. Este asunto fue un tópico frecuente en los escritores antiguos, y fue representado por el pintor Polignoto en sus frescos de Lesche en Delfos (Pausanias x. 31).

The motive of this punishment is not mentioned by Homero, and turns out to be dark (some of them suggest that is an ironic punishment on behalf of Minos: Sísifo did not want to die and he will never die but in exchange for a high price and will not rest in peace up to paying it).

According to some, he had revealed the plans of the gods to the mortal ones. In agreement with others, he owed to his habit of attacking and to murder travelers. Also it is said even after old man and blind person would continue with his punishment.

This matter was a frequent topic in the ancient writers, and was represented by the painter Polignoto in his(its,her) Lesche's fresh air(Lesche's frescos) in Delphi (Pausanias x. 31).

Esta integración de las realidades de las situaciones marginales dentro de la realidad prominente de la vida cotidiana tiene gran importancia, porque dichas situaciones constituyen la amenaza más señalada para la existencia establecida y rutinizada en sociedad.

Si se concibe a esta última como el “lado luminoso” de la vida humana en ese caso las situaciones marginales constituyen el “lado sombrío” que se cierra siniestro en la periferia de la conciencia cotidiana. Por el solo hecho de que el lado sombrío tiene su realidad propia que suele ser siniestra, constituye una amenaza constante para la realidad “lúcida”, establecida y positiva de la vida en sociedad. Constantemente se sugiere la idea (la idea “insana” por excelencia) de que tal vez la realidad luminosa de la vida cotidiana no sea más que una ilusión que en cualquier instante puede ser devorada por las ululantes pesadillas de la otra realidad, la sombría.

The shady place

This integration of the realities of the marginal situations inside the prominent reality of the daily life has great importance, because the above mentioned situations constitute the threat most indicated for the existence established and routined in society.
If the latter is conceived since the " luminous side " of the human life in this case the marginal situations constitute the " shaded side " that is closed desaster in the periphery of the daily conscience.
For the only fact of which the shaded side has its own reality that usually is sinister, it constitutes a constant threat for the "lucid", established and positive reality of the life in society.
Constantly it's suggested the idea (the "insane" idea par excellence) that maybe the luminous reality of the daily life should not be any more than an illusion that in any instant can be devoured by the howled nightmares of another reality, the shady place.

Proserpina

Proserpina (del latín proserpere, ‘emerger’) es una antigua diosa cuya historia es la base de un mito de la primavera. Es la equivalente en la mitología romana a la diosa griega Perséfone. Proserpina fue subsumida por el culto de Libera, una antigua diosa de la fertilidad, esposa de Liber. Es una deidad de vida, muerte y resurrección.

Proserpina era la hija de Ceres y Júpiter, y se le describía como una joven sumamente encantadora.
Venus, para dar amor a Plutón, envió a su hijo Amor (también conocido como Cupido) para que acertase a Plutón con una de sus flechas. Proserpina estaba en Sicilia, en la fuente de Aretusa (cerca de Enna), donde jugaba con algunas ninfas y recogía flores. Entonces Plutón surgió del cercano volcán Etna con cuatro caballos negros y la raptó para casarse con ella y vivir juntos en el Hades, el inframundo grecorromano, del que era gobernante. Plutón era también su tío, pues Júpiter y Ceres eran sus hermanos. Así pues, Proserpina es la Reina del Inframundo.
Su madre Ceres, diosa de los cereales o la Tierra, marchó a buscarla en vano por todos los rincones del mundo, pero logró hallar más que un pequeño cinturón que flotaba en un pequeño lago (hecho con las lágrimas de las ninfas). En su desesperación Ceres detuvo enfurecida el crecimiento de frutas y verduras,y se arrancó los vestidos y se arañó la cara, cayendo así una maldición sobre Sicilia. Ceres rehusó volver al Olimpo y empezó a vagar por la tierra, convirtiéndose en desierto lo que pisaba.
Preocupado, Júpiter envió a Mercurio para que ordenar a Plutón que liberase a Proserpina. Éste obedeció, pero antes de dejarla ir le hizo comer seis semillas de granada (un símbolo de fidelidad en el matrimonio), de forma que tuviese que vivir seis meses al año con él, pudiendo permanecer el resto con su madre. Ésta es pues la razón de la primavera: cuando Proserpina vuelve con su madre, Ceres decora la tierra con flores de bienvenida, pero cuando en el otoño vuelve al Hades, la naturaleza pierde sus colores.



El mito de Proserpina, descrito principalmente por el romano Claudiano (siglo IV) está estrechamente relacionado con el de Orfeo y Eurídice: es Proserpina, como Reina del Hades, quien permite a Orfeo entrar y llevar de vuelta a la vida a su esposa Eurídice, muerta por una mordedura de serpiente. Proserpina tocaba su cetra para aplacar a Cerbero, pero Orfeo no respetaba su orden de nunca mirar atrás y perdía así a Eurídice.
